The redevelopment of Hunters Point shipyard can begin now that a California judge ruled that the environmental review was for the most part adequate. The judge took issue with the early transfer of some parcels, but determined that the naturally occurring asbestos and the release of toxic material at the Superfund site during construction would be properly mitigated under the plans. The Sierra Club and Golden Gate Audubon challenged the project but settled their suits in January, leaving the activist group POWER as the only remaining contender.
