Think twice about dipping a toe into the cool Pacific over the 4th of July holiday. The Natural Resources Defense Council released a report showing a 29 percent increase in beach closures and advisories nationwide in 2010. Eleven percent of California beaches had elevated levels of bacterial contamination, the largest amount in five years. Among them close to home: Candlestick Point in San Francisco.
