King tide photos capture Bay Area’s future sea level rise

02/18/2011
By Victoria Schlesinger

Twice a year the sun and the moon’s combined gravitational pull create extremely high tides around the Bay Area called King Tides. February 18th is both the final day of this season’s King Tides, as well as a new initiative to photograph the high waterline by the San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Reserve (NERR) in an effort to show residents how sea level rise will impact the region. The public is encouraged to contribute photos to the Bay Area King Tide Photo Initiative Flickr website. [KQED]
